Sorry I have not had any updates in awhile. It has been a crazy 12 days so far in the NICU. Most days by the time we get home, I don't have the energy to come on here and talk anymore about the day.
Overall, Connor is still doing very well with all things considered (not having water for 7 weeks while in my belly, plus being just under 29 weeks gestation when he was born). But there have been many up and down days.
Connor has been back on his CPAP now for a few days. The first day he came off his CPAP they left him off for 10 hours, then the next day 8 hours. They think that they maybe over worked him a little to hard. So the docs put him back on his CPAP full time over last weekend and mostly through out his week, with a small trial off of CPAP for about an hour.
On top of this, two days in a row Chris and I walked in to find his heart rate way up, his resparations very high, and he had an increase temperature. Of course our first fear was that he may be getting an infection (as those are all signs that he may be). Eventually, it was discovered that his isolette that he stays in was heating up on its own. So in turn cooking him up way hotter then he needed to be. As such this cause his temperature to increase greatly. Finally after a few days we were able to demand that they change his Isolette out and give him a new one. His temp has been fine since.
He had a much better past two days.
However, today he is a little off again. As they say in the NICU, you need to get use to one step forward and two back.
He is up to 9ml and hour now for his feeds. He will max out at 10.6 and then his Picc line will be able to be removed. So that is a step forward for sure.
The doctors continue to reassure us that even though they know it is hard, he is doing what he needs to be and right now it is just the waiting game while he continues to develop his lungs and what not.
Some days are easier then others, that is for sure. I spend many days on the brink of tears, and generally the smallest thing can bring the welling tears to my eyes.
It is hard to sit there all day watching our bean, feeling so sorry for him and wishing you could trade places with him. I try to keep strength by remember how well he is doing right now, and the fact that he is much further along then any doctor expected him to be.
day by day, week by week, baby steps!
